Beauty Tips You must keep in Mind

Beauty Tips You must keep in Mind In Life

Your morning beauty regime takes you exactly 12 minutes. First comes the face wash, then the astringent, followed by the moisturizer. And the list goes on. It's become such a chore, but wasn't there a time when this routine was fun? Well, we decided to take you back to the days when applying makeup was a treat by giving you some innovative beauty tips and tricks to spice up your routine.

To get this insider information, we contacted Carmindy, resident make-up artist on TLC's "What Not to Wear," and author of The 5 Minute Face. Here are her 10 beauty tips to leave you feeling fresh and fabulous.

Beauty Tip #  1- Lip gloss without the goop.

Instead of directly putting the tube of gloss to your lips, Carmindy recommends adding an extra step to ensure less stickiness. "I like to put lip gloss on my fingertips first and then just pat it onto the flesh of my lips. And this way you'll get a little bit of glow, but it won't be too goopy." Also, try a moisturizing lipstick or a lip stain first before you add the gloss to make sure the color stays put.

Beauty Tip # 2 - A sweet scrub.

"The best exfoliate in the world is regular white table sugar." If every scrub out there contains some form of sugar, like "Almond Sugar Scrub" or "Brown Sugar Scrub," why not just use what's in your kitchen cupboard? "What happens is that the small crystals dissipate in water so they don't tear your skin." And, if you have sensitive skin, don't fret. "It even works better because with other products you might not like a fragrance or a lot of ingredients," states Carmindy. When you're in the shower, all you have to do is lather your face up like normal and then get a handful of sugar and scrub your face. And if you run out you'll be able to ask your cute neighbor for a spot of sugar!

Beauty Tip # 3 Ditch your spot concealer.

Instead of fumbling around your makeup bag for multiple concealers in the morning, just stick to one, advises Carmindy. The reason why? Because you can actually use the foundation stuck to the top of the cap of your liquid all-over concealer as your spot-treatment. "It oxidizes there so it becomes a little bit thicker." Plus, she says, "It's the same shade as your foundation, so it will instantly erase your blemish." To apply, just take a small tip concealer brush and dip into the cap of your foundation, or the nozzle if you use a spray. Then brush it on the spots and you're ready to go. Now it will be a good thing when your foundation lid gets cakey.

Beauty Tip # 4 - Recycle: Good for the earth, good for your lips.

What are you supposed to do when your four best lipsticks are almost gone and your finger is tired from scraping out the remnants below? Carmindy suggests combining the half-used sticks into your own lip pallet. "Go to the drug store and purchase a plastic pill box and dig out the lipstick that's left in the tubes. Then put each color into a different little section of the pill box." You can mix and match the colors or even put Vaseline in one of the sections to make your own lip gloss.

Beauty Tip # 5
To get fuller lips people often outline them with a pencil, but most of the time it looks noticeable and unsophisticated (especially when the lipstick comes off and you're left with just that awful line). To get invisible enhancement, Carmindy recommends you take a Q-tip and dip it in a little bit of white shimmer eye shadow and lightly trace the outside of your lips. "What will happen is that the shimmer will capture the light and make your lips seem larger." You won't be able to see it, but the slight glimmer will do the trick. Great if you don't have any collagen handy.

Beauty Tip # 6 - Bronzed but not dirty.

Dusting bronzer all over your face can make you look like you've been rolling around in the sand box all day or have picked up a part time job as a chimney sweep. Carmindy prefers a spray bronzer to get the appearance of a fresh summer tan. "I like to spray a sponge and then what I do is just push it onto the skin--on the temples and then right underneath the cheekbones because this is kind of where the sun would kiss your face. And if you like powder bronzer you can apply it in the same places too."

Beauty Tip # 7 - Brow breakthrough.

If you've been awarded barely there eyebrow DNA, you've probably tried everything to make them visible--and figured out that most of the time these products end up rubbing off by the end of the day. If you still want eyebrows at five p.m., Carmindy advises buying waterproof liquid eyeliner that matches your hair color like black, brown or taupe. Then, she says, "You can take an angled brush and feather the liquid eyeliner on to your eyebrows and it will stay put all day long. It looks more natural than a pencil and stays longer." It's a win-win.

Now if you're like me and are on the opposite end of the brow spectrum you might need some help keeping your out-of-control brows in check. To do this, "Take a spooly brush or an old tooth brush, put a little hair gel on there and just brush it onto your eyebrows to have them stay put."

Beauty Tip # 8 - Not your average smoky eye.

"What I like to do is take a color like a navy blue or a sparkling kind of burgundy purple and just line the inside rim and right along the upper and lower lash line and then smudge it with a Q-tip. That way, there's no eye shadow pushing the eye back, but you still have the smoky effect because they're lined with color. If you have deep-set eyes, Carmindy advises you to avoid putting dark shadow on your eyelids because it will make them seem even more pushed back. "There are so many ways to do a smoky eye, but people always think there's only one way to do it."

Beauty Tip # 9 - Save time and eye shadow

Running late in the morning? The best thing you can put on is white shimmering highlight powder. "If you highlight three key places you set of the planes of your face--you don't even need eye shadow," says Carmindy. These key spots are underneath the eyebrow, on the inside corner of the eye and on top of the cheekbone. "It brings sparkle to the eye; it lifts up the lid and draws attention to the top of the cheekbone." Now all you need is a big cup of coffee to actually feel as awake as you look.

Beauty Tip # 10 - Make perfume last.

A few spritzes of perfume in the morning will not carry you through the day, no matter how expensive your bottle may be. To make your scent last, try this beauty tip: put an unscented moisturizer on first and then spray on your perfume a few seconds later. "There's so much alcohol in perfume," Carmindy explains, "that if you spray it on dry skin, a lot of times it evaporates so quickly. But if you have moisturizer on your skin it adheres much better."

Who says your beauty routine has to be boring--especially now that you can take a box of sugar with you in the shower or turn a pill box into a personalized lip pallet. With these beauty tips You just might have to rethink your 12 minute routine after all.

With the help of TLC's resident make-up artist Carmindy, Savvy Miss author Leslie Barrie compiles a list of less-known but great beauty secrets that leave you feeling lush and fabulous.

Your morning beauty regime takes you exactly 12 minutes. First comes the face wash, then the astringent, followed by the moisturizer. And the list goes on. It?s become such a chore, but wasn?t there a time when this routine was fun? Well, we decided to take you back to the days when applying makeup was a treat by giving you some innovative beauty tips and tricks to spice up your routine.

Harmful Ingredients in Your Cosmetics

Do you know about these harmful ingredients in your cosmetics?

Do you know how many chemicals and toxic substances you put on your skin especially on your face in the name of make-up and skincare cosmetics? Things that you think are helping you look beautiful can in fact ruin your skin in the long run. There are a million products available in the market and how often do you read the fine print to understand what’s in it? Even if you do, can you differentiate between which chemical is hazardous and which is not? Probably no! In order to make things easier,

Toxic toiletries

Beauty Unleashed

This is probably not something you think about when you are putting on your favourite lipstick, but the cosmetics and beauty products in your drawer are packed with all sorts of unsavoury chemicals. There are over 150 ingredients used in each product and, according to experts, many of these are toxic and potentially damaging to our health. These include artificial fragrances, colouring, pesticides, preservatives and other synthetic chemicals. Now, we know that sixty per cent of any substance applied to the skin is absorbed into the body (researchers estimate the average woman absorbs about two kilograms of chemicals through toiletries and cosmetics every year), and there is major concern that these substances can cause a wide variety of health problems, from allergies to cancers. It’s not individual ingredients that are harmful; these have each been tested for toxicity and safety. The problem arises because of the combination of these ingredients in a single product, and the use of a combination of products, all containing a number of chemicals. One lipstick, for instance, may contain six to eight preservators—some for the colour, some for moistness, and some for the fragrance. Together, they could be a harmful cocktail of toxic ingredients. One of the most common ingredients in many toiletries is sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). This is an ingredient most manufacturers add to products such as shampoos, soaps, bubble baths, shower gels and even toothpastes, to make them foam. The point is, there is no need for products to foam to be effective. Many people think that the more the shampoo lathers, the better is its cleansing action—but that is just a cosmetic effect. SLS is an irritant and can trigger allergies and rashes. I would really suggest switching products containing SLS for those using gentler and safer foaming agents, such as palm or coconut oils and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate which is much gentler than SLS. (Read: How kajal, mascara and other eye make-up can harm you)

The immediate risk to health may not be that obvious right now. The results of exposure to many common chemicals may not become apparent until the next generation, which makes it very difficult to link the cause. The easiest way to protect yourself and your health from toxic chemicals is to switch to reliable organic brands while doing a little research yourself.

Harmful hair dyes

Synthetic hair colour products are among the worst culprits for allergic skin reactions. The ingredients that are the worst offenders are phenediamines, resorcinol and ammonia.
Women with sensitive skin should avoid these ingredients altogether and use natural, plant-based dyes. These are supposed to be gentler on the hair and scalp, but even they use metallic colours in them. Other chemicals to be avoided include chlorides, hydrogen peroxide, lead oxides and artificial colours, especially anything containing acid orange, solvent brown, acid blues and acid violets, all of which are suspected to be carcinogens. There is some debate as to whether some ingredients in hair colour, bonding/straightening/perming solutions, relaxers, may increase the client’s risk to certain cancers. (Read: Hair colouring – what you need to know)

Hidden risks

A recent study by Dr Vyvyan Howard, developmental toxic pathologist at the University of Liverpool, found that four out of five products contain a chemical called phthalates. In lab studies, these have been found to harm the liver, lungs and reproductive system, and especially the developing sex organs in males. They cause premature breast development in girls and low sperm count in men. Perfumes, deodorants, hair mousses, setting gels, hair serums and spray, certain shampoos and conditioners and many hair products were tested to see if they contained one or several of six different phthalates. As many as four out of five were found to have high levels of several phthalates chemicals that affect animals and humans and should not be used in cosmetics at all, according to Dr Howard.

Many people are exposed to multiple doses of toxins every day from the range of cosmetics they use. Yet, because the manufacturers don’t have to list phthalates on labels, it’s impossible to know about them. Now Dr Howard has started campaigning for manufacturers to stop using phthalates from their products and ban phthalates from the cosmetic industry; this could, however, be too little too late. (Read: Herbal alternatives to cosmetics)

The cosmetic industry is eager to point out that widely-used ingredients are backed by safety tests that outweigh isolated studies and scare-mongering internet reports. Conversely, the so called purists argue that plant ingredients have more affinity with the skin and so penetrate more easily to enhance cellular functions. Companies say that for every synthetic ingredient, there are different plant extracts that do the job as well. A peptide extracted from boswellia, the frankincense tree, is a natural answer to wrinkles, maybe even an alternative to Botox, for example.

Chemicals to avoid

Methyl, propyl, butyl, ethyl parabens: Common preservatives used in all toiletries, dental and hair products. They are linked to allergic skin reactions and may be potential carcinogens.

Formaldehyde: Widely used in toiletries such as deodorants and nail varnish as a germicidal, fungicide and preservative. A potential carcinogen, it may trigger asthma and damage DNA.

Coal tar: Used as a colorant in cosmetics such as blushers and eye liners. Companies also use it in anti-dandruff shampoos. May trigger nausea, mood swings, and headaches and has been found to be linked with cancer.

Lanolin: In itself perfectly safe, but cosmetic grade lanolin can be contaminated with carcinogenic pesticide such as DDT. It is usually comedogenic, i.e., it can produce or aggravate acne.

Isopropyl alcohol: Used to blend colours in cosmetics, it is linked to neurological damage and cancer.

Talc (magnesium silicate): Used in makeup and powders. Irritates the lungs and may be carcinogenic; possible link to ovarian cancer.

Synthetic fragrances: Used in cosmetics and perfumes, may cause headaches, nausea, skin allergies, and rashes, coughing, asthma and vomiting.  (Read: Your cosmetic beauty routine equals to 500 chemicals on your body every day!

Best Tips For Summer Make Up

Fashion, Beauty and Health

Taking care of yourself is a daily affair. It is part of that well-groomed look. In fact, beauty is not just a question of how you look, but how you feel and at no time is this more relevant than during the hot days of summer.

Make-up and grooming both pose problems during summers. Due to excessive heat and perspiration, make-up never seems to last. Therefore it should be kept to a bare minimum, especially during the day.

For facial skin

A daily skin care regimen pays rich dividends. If the skin is clear, without any blemishes, one does not need foundation. Heavy foundations become “caked” and streaky with perspiration during summers showing up natural creases, lines and wrinkles. So, try to avoid them. During the day, use a colorless baby powder as it’s not only light, but has a transparent sheen, which is more flattering.

For the night, if you wish to use foundation, choose a water-based one and blend well. You can even add a drop or two of water, before applying it. This helps to give a lighter coverage. You can also go for the pan sticks, to which you can add water before use. If you use a concealer for blemishes, it should be done before using the foundation. Pat the foundation with a damp sponge when you apply it, so that the concealer is not rubbed off.

For your lips

After using lipstick, add a touch of lip-gloss, which actually gives a “cool” look. Or, you can use frosty lipsticks. You can even add a touch of your lip-gloss on the center of the upper eyelids. These are some of the tricks to look cool.

For colors in lipstick, choose from light pink and mauve, which are “icy” colors and look cool. It may be a good idea to stick to lip-gloss during the day. For the night, you should use brighter colors, as artificial light tends to drain color. You can go for plum, wine, burgundy, coral, bronze. You can even wear a bright red at night.

For your eyes

Eye make-up during the day should also be light. In fact, you can leave out eyeliner and pencil and line your eyes with brown eye shadow. Then apply mascara. This helps to darken the eyes, without heavy eye make-up.

For the night, eye make-up can be heavier, lining the lids with eyeliner or pencil. If you use eyeliner, smudge the line with a sponge applicator. This gives a smoky effect and is better than a harsh black line. At night, use a frosted highlight (white or very light color) on the brow bone and shine on the eyelids.

Grooming

As far as grooming is concerned, the golden rule for summer is simplicity. Loose, light clothing is much more appropriate and comfortable during summer. Cotton shields can be used under the arms to absorb sweat and protect clothing. Daily changes of clothing are a must. In fact, in summer two changes of clothing help to avoid body odour.

For your clothes, simple lines and pastel, serene colors would be suitable. Flowing styles look and feel cool. Another “cool” trick is to use two shades of the same color, like two progressive shades of silver blue or powder pink. Stick to neutral shades and favor whites. Materials, like cotton, organza, chiffon, lace and so on, look summery and feel comfortable.

Avoid synthetic fabrics, as they do not allow perspiration to evaporate. Tight figure hugging dresses should also be avoided. Large prints or bold abstract ones detract from the cool look. Candy stripes and baby checks in soft pastel shades, trimmed with lace, looks attractive in hot weather. If you are in the mood for prints, go for the soft, subtle shades, which merge into one another.

Go slow on jewelery

Cut down on jewelery for hot days. Choose one striking accessory. Silver has a cooler look than gold. Pearls also make one look cool and elegant. Avoid tight chokers around the neck. Long, loose dangling chains or beads are better for summer.

Keep your hair simply styled and away from the face. Try to keep the nape of the neck free of hair. It will make you look and feel cool. If you have long hair, put it up with the help of a large hair clip, ribbon, or scrunchy, coordinating them with your clothes. In fact, a large number of hair styling aids are available nowadays. It is a question of keeping your eyes and mind open. Try to be a good observer and be creative.

For your feet

Pay special attention to your feet. After washing them well. Dry thoroughly and apply talcum powder. If you wear closed shoes, sprinkle some in the shoes too. In the hot season, slippers and open sandals are best, as they allow the perspiration to evaporate. However, open footwear attracts dirt and foot hygiene becomes all the more important. After a hot day, soak your feet in cold water, to which some salt has been added.

During summer, keep to light fragrances, rather than heavy concentrated ones. A light cologne or toilet water may be enough. Floral or lemony fragrances are just right in summer. Cologne, after a shower, can be most refreshing.

Makeup Tips for Summer

Fashion, Beauty and Health

Summer is the time to flaunt yourself in the public and make an impression on the world so you should be very careful with the makeup as it can run down because of the heat.
Take on summer with a fresh appearance forward - less is best! And follow the below given archive summer make-up tips

1. Emphasize your glowing skin by brushing on a light shimmering powder instead of a heavy foundation for advance style tips. You don't want to come into view like you are melting under the hot sun.

2. Use a matte finish on my face and then a shimmer powder on your eyelids, above your cheekbones, and on your shoulders and collarbone this is the best advance style tip ever.

3. A hot look on a bronzed face is shiny lip gloss for an archive summer makeup tip. Plus, it stays put - a big plus for die-hard lip gloss wearers!
4. For another advance makeup tip you should try a light shimmering eye shadow in beige just under your brow bone to draw attention to your eyes in the steamy hot weather.

5. If you are wear mascara, try a water-resistant. This way you will avoid "Raccoon Eyes" when you are covered with sweat or near water. Don't forget the must-have partner, eye make-up remover, or else you really will end up with the frightening dark circles!

When summer comes, you can lighten up your makeup and make it natural and neat-looking. Ditch the heavy makeup and opt instead for a light summery makeup look!

Steps

1
Start out by washing your face with a gentle facial cleanser. Pat dry and apply a light facial moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or higher to keep your skin protected from the harsh summer rays.

  1. 2
Apply some powder. Skip liquid and cream foundations in the summer, and instead use a very light mineral foundation with an SPF. Blend it well to regulate your skin tone. Don't go for the orange "oompa-loompa" look. Orange is for the summer sunsets, not your face

3Apply concealer wherever needed, but don't go overboard. Try using it just under your eyes and on any blemishes. If you'd rather not wear concealer, skip it and move on to the next step.

4Apply bronzer or blush. Very lightly apply bronzer, or a tawny-brown or light pink blush on the apples of your cheeks, your nose, your chin, and your hairline. Keep it looking natural.

  1. 5
Apply eyeshadow (optional). Use a natural color around your eyes if you choose to wear any shadow, and do not apply it above your crease at all.

  1. 6
Put on a little waterproof mascara. A little mascara will bring your eyes out, but a soft brown shade is better than black to thicken your lashes without being obvious. Skip the liner.

7Add lip gloss. Apply a lip balm with an SPF to protect them, then top it off with a clear, nude, light pink, or peach-orange gloss. Natural colors are key here. Add a little shine, but don’t worry about adding color.

8Finished.

6 Lotion Bar Recipes

Fashion, Beauty and Health

At our house, we love lotion bars. In fact, I rarely use regular lotion anymore since lotion bars are so much easier to make and so much more nourishing. They are also mess-free so the kids can use them too.

If you are new to lotion bars, they are a nourishing skin bars that are used on dry skin (not in the shower! This makes a mess!)

Over the last few years, I’ve found ways to make a lot of variations of homemade lotion bars. These are our favorites:

1. Basic Lotion Bars

Basic Lotion bars combine coconut oil, natural shea or cocoa butter and beeswax for a simple but nourishing recipe. This is my kids’ favorite and we add favorite essential oils for scent.

2. Sensitive Skin Lotion Bars

These lotion bars use an unconventional ingredient in place of coconut oil for those with an allergy or aversion to coconut oil. These are especially helpful for those with eczema or skin dryness and they are equally simple to make.

3. Bronzing Lotion Bars

Being of Irish descent, I have naturally fair skin. I’ve actually darkened naturally quite a bit since changing my diet, but in the winter especially, I often feel very fair skinned. These lotion bars were my solution. They infuse coffee and cocoa for a (great smelling) and lightly bronzing lotion bar.

4. Pain Relief Lotion Bars

When our family started taking martial arts, these bars came in handy. They use natural ingredients like arnica, menthol and mint to help sooth sore muscles (just not while pregnant or nursing!). They are a natural cool/heat bar that helps ease muscle stiffness and pain.

5. Bug Off Lotion Bars

We don’t have nearly enough bats in our area for the number of mosquitoes we have. In the summer months, mosquito are really bad at our house, especially since we have so much shade around our house. These lotion bars have been a huge help! They protect the skin with natural oils and moisturize at the same time.

6. Sunscreen Bars

We don’t use sunscreen often (back to the diet for skin heath and avoiding sunburn) but when we will be outside for longer than usual, these are a great natural solution. They use zinc oxide with the basic lotion bar recipe ingredients for a low SPF lotion bar.
